早幾個月前 Google 已經公開展示最新操作系統 Android 7.0，但是當時未有消息甚麼時候會推送正式版。

而外界一直認為應該會於 Nexus 系列最新手機 Sailfish 及 Marlin 發佈時同期發送，但是有消息指 Android 7.0 有很大可能會提早推送。

日前加拿大電訊商 Telus 發放的資料中，顯示 Nexus 5X 及 Nexus 6P 將於 8 月 22 日獲得 Android 7.0 升級。
